Into The Loom

Web Design - Creative Loom

The past few months have seen me “go dark” socially. In fact, I visited Facebook on Sunday and realised I hadn’t posted a single status update in a month, and I had more notifications than I had ever seen on Facebook.

Of course, then there’s The Urban Alchemist: no posts since January. At the time of my last post I was in a strange space, like I could feel a transition coming but couldn’t quite tell what it was going to be. Well, I found out soon enough.

What are you waiting for?

What Are You Waiting For

A friend of mine said to me, “…people seem to have this idea that they have to wait…” Indeed. What are you waiting for?

Thought I’d do something different today. There’s plenty I’d like to say but it’s neither the time or the place. Instead, I give you these…

Stop Psyching Yourself Out!

Stop Psyching Yourself Out

Firstly, I just want to say that the word ‘psyching’ looks completely made up and/or misspelled, but for lack of a better way of putting it, it’ll have to do. Bottom line? I need you to stop psyching yourself out!

Do it! Do it now!

Do it

We’ve all been there. Some of you are there right now. You’ve got something in mind you want to start doing. Eating healthier, exercising more, socialising, reading, going to bed early, watching less TV, etc. The list of will-do‘s we come up with is extensive. So, I just want to say this…

Fading

Fading

Fading

In the beginning my leaves were vibrant and full. The waters of satisfaction kept me radiant. But the months set in, the weather turned and the reality of my situation revealed itself. I had hoped it wouldn’t happen so quickly, that I wouldn’t know this thirst again so soon. Unfortunately the satisfaction has dried up and my appearance is beginning to reflect it. My once vibrant leaves are now browning and detaching, falling away, indeed strewn around me by the air of discontent. Malnourished, I wilt and fade.

Is racism still a problem?

Is racism still a problem?

Of course it is, it’s just not as overt as it once was.

And a good morning to you, sir

I forgot my keys this morning. A bit of a problem since one, I normally get into the office before everyone else so let myself in in the morning, and two, I normally go home for lunch. So annoyed on two fronts – I’m heading to work early but might not be able to get in and I’m certainly going to starve at lunch time.

Little and Often

Little and Often (no more over-working)

I’m currently coding about 16 hours per day. This has left little time for other interests like making music, blogging, gyming, or playing video games, hence the absence of regular posts from The Urban Alchemist. I’ve decided it’s not good enough, so I’m changing my approach.

Shining Eyes: Moved by Benjamin Zander

Shining Eyes - Benjamin Zander

I just came across a TED Talks video featuring Benjamin Zander, a classical composer and conductor, apparently discussing classical music with shining eyes (that’s what the title said). I didn’t know what that meant or what to expect but I had nothing else I felt like doing so I went ahead and watched it. I’m so glad I did.
